In Memoriam Kathleen E. Gathmann (1926-2010) Kathleen E. Gathmann was called home to heaven on December 12, 2010. A Christian funeral was conducted from Grace on December16. Her loving survivors are five daughters, one son, twenty grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A resident of a nursing home, she was ministered to by her Pastors. Internment was held at Glen Eden Lutheran Cemetery in Livonia. Henry James Fenningdorl, Jr. (1927-2011) A Christian funeral service for Henry, who died on Friday, February 18 was conducted on Saturday, February 26. His loving survivors are his wife Mabel (also a member of Grace Church), one son, two daughters, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Henry owned "the oldest business in Southfield" - The Fenningdorf Greenhouse. After selling the family business, he delivered flowers for a florist. He was a faithful member of Grace Church for over forty years and served as an usher and on our Board of Elders, Our prayers go out to this family. Rose Louise Crenshaw (1928 - 2011) A Christian funeral service for Rose, who died on Sunday, February 27, was conducted from our sanctuary on Friday, March 4. Her loving survivors include her husband Paul (o( 62 years), one daughter, one brother, two grandchildren and five great-children. She was a volunteer for many Redford Township commissions - winning "Volunteer of the Year" in 1999, She and Paul have been faithful members of Grace Church for over forty years. George Boot, Jr. (1918- 2011) A Christian funeral service for George, who died on March 5 was conducted on March 7. George and his wife Eleanor have been faithful members pf Grace Church for fifty-five years and drove every Sunday (and Wednesday Lenten worship services) from Clinton Township to worship at Grace Church. George served his Country as a Captain in the Marines during World War II. A graduate of Wayne State University, he served as a civil engineer for the City of Detroit working on projects including Cobo Hall. His loving survivors are his wife Eleanor of sixty-six years, one sister and many nieces, nephews and friends. George was the first Grace Church member to be interred in Glen Eden Lutheran Cemetery - East. Charles E. Wein (1922-2011) A Christian funeral service for Chuck, who died on Wednesday, April 13, was conducted on Monday, April 18. His loving survivors are his wife Naomi, one son, three daughters and eight grandchildren. Chuck and Naomi have been faithful members of Grace Church for over 50 years. He served on our Board of Elders and was an Usher for many years. He was a retired employee of the Ford Motor Company. Burial was held at Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park. Our prayers go out to Naomi and the family. Imogene Zarras (1926-2011) A Christian funeral service for Imogene who died on Tuesday, April 26 was conducted on Saturday, April 30. Her loving survivors are three sons, seven grandchildren and one brother. Imogene was employed by the Detroit Public Schools for many years. She was a faithful member of Grace Church for over thirty years as are many of the family members. Our prayers go out to Imogene's family. Ida K. Matzo (1914-2011) A memorial service for Ida who died on Wednesday, May 4 was conducted from our sanctuary on Wednesday, May 11. Her loving survivors are one son, seven grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, one brother and many nieces and nephews.. She wa$ preceded in. death by her husband and one daughter. .Id~ was a faithful member of Grace Church since 1944 but has been unable to worship In Church for many years because of ill health. The Pastors ministered to her privately, She worked for the Redford Union Schools for 2G years as a baker. Ida is interred at Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park in Livonia. Pirkko M. Koppelo (1931-2011) A Christian funeral service for Pirrko, who died on May 18 was conducted on Saturday, May 21. She was born in Finland and came to America with her sister at the age of twenty-one. She worked for many years at Sears and was a loving homemaker and homebuilder. Her loving survivors are her husband Bernard of fifty-seven years, two sons, one daughter, four grandchildren, ten siblings and many friends. The Koppelo's have been faithful members of Grace Church since 1959. Cynthia Karen Flood  -  1958 - 2011 A Christian memorial service for Cinde who died on June 29 was conducted from our sanctuary on July 5 with burial at Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park.  She was a graduate of Madonna College and a lifelong, faithful member of Grace Church. Prior to her illness she was an executive with Comerica Bank.  She struggled with a difficult illness for eight years with her parents as loving care-givers.  Not one to give up, she became a volunteer of "Seedlings", a group that transcribes Braille.   She was registered in 2007 as a "certified Braille transcriber".  Her loving family includes her parents Don and Norma Flood, one sister, two sons and many other family members and friends.  Cinde was interred in Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park in Livonia. Ben O. Esch (1927- 2011) A Christian funeral service for Ben, who died on Monday. May 30 was conducted from our sanctuary on Monday, June 6. His loving survivors are his wife Judy of 30 years and two daughters. Ben worked for the Wayne County Health Department for over 30 years. He joined Grace Church in 1962 and worked all of those years with our Sunday School. For the last several years ill health has kept Ben homebound where the Pastors ministered to him. A World War II veteran, Ben was laid to rest at Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park in Livonia with military honors. Donna L. Bauer  -  1930 - 2011 A Christian funeral service for Donna, who died on July 30, 2011, was held on August 6.  Her loving survivors are one daughter, one son, eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  Donna was a registered nurse and worked in labor and delivery at both Grace Hospital and Botsford Hospital.  She was a member of Grace Church for over fifty years.  The last ten years she had been confined to her home where the Pastors ministered to her.  Burial was at Glen Eden Lutheran Cemetery, Livonia. Emma Lucile Voepel  -  1922 - 2011 A Christian funeral service for Emma, who died on August 4, 2011, was held on August 8.  Her loving survivors are one daughter, one son, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many other family members and friends.  Emma and her late husband, Emil were loyal members of Grace Church for fifty four years. Burial was at Glen Eden Lutheran Cemetery, Livonia. Emma's favorite Psalm:  "I will lift up my eyes unto the Lord from whence cometh my help.  My help comes from the Lord"  Psalm 12:1-2  Allan Winslow Barnes   (1929 - 2011) A Christian funeral service for Allan, who died on Friday, August 12 was held on Monday, August 15.  His loving survivors are his wife Marian (a life-long member of Grace), two sons and two sisters.  Allan was employed by J. L. Hudson Company for many years and served our nation during the Korean War.  .  He was a faithful member of Grace Church and served as an Elder for over thirty years. Patsy Arlene Grant (1931-2011) A Christian funeral service for Arlene, who died on Wednesday, September 21 was conducted from our sanctuary on Friday, September 23. Her loving survivors are one son, two daughters, eight grandchildren. and one sister. Arlene was a faithful member of Grace Church for over fifty five years. Along with her work with the Redford Union School system, Arlene served Grace Church in the Chancel Choir, the Handbell Choir, Vacation Bible School and the Altar Guild. Burial was at Grand Lawn Cemetery, Detroit. May the Lord of the Church bless this family. Isabelle Mezigian (1931-2011) A Christian funeral service for Isabelle who died Friday, September 23 was conducted on Tuesday, September 27. Her loving survivors are two daughters and three sons and their spouses, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many friends. Isabelle and her late husband Leo were members of Grace Church for many years. Many other family members are also members of Grace Church Mary G. Gerber (1916-2011) A memorial service for Mary who died on Sunday, September 18 was conducted from our sanctuary on Thursday, October 6. Her loving survivors are one daughter, one sister-in-law, one-brother-in-law, several nieces and nephews and friends. Mary was a homemaker and was a faithful member of Grace Church for many years. For the last ten years she was homebound in her apartment in Westland where the Pastors ministered to her. Burial of her cremains was conducted at Glen Eden Lutheran Cemetery in Livonia. Richard M. Sinclair (1926-2011) A funeral service for Richard who died suddenly on Sunday, October 2 was conducted from our sanctuary on Thursday, October 6. His loving survivors are his wife Ruth, two sons and one daughter. Richard was employed by the Vickers Co. in the area of hydraulics. He served our nation faithfully in World War II. Richard, along with his wife Ruth, had been a faithful member of Grace Church for over fifty years. He served in our Finance Department and worked side-by-side with Ruth for many of our parish programs and dinners over the years. Burial took place at Glen Eden Lutheran Cemetery in Livonia. David B. Waser 1949-2011 David, who died suddenly on Friday, September 30 was laid to rest with military honors on Friday, October 7 at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. David served our nation faithfully during the Vietnam War. His loving survivors are his father, two sisters and many other family members and friends. For many years David lived in New Mexico where he was a member of a Lutheran Church. Two years ago he returned to the Detroit area and rejoined Grace Church where he had been confirmed and had grown up as a youth. He presently sang in our Chancel Choir and was a faithful Church member. Beverly P. Jahn 1938 - 2011 A private family funeral service for Beverly, who died on November 9, 2011, was conducted at the Rose Chapel of Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park on November 12.. For many years Beverly was a Pastor's wife, Church organist and Bell Choir Director. She retired after 20 years of service at the Veteran's Hospital in Ann Arbor. .She was also a fa.ithful member of Grace Church and for several. years s.he furnished the large print Portals of Prayer for Grace Chu..rch. Her loving survivors are one son, two daughters and two grandsons. May the Lord of the Church bless all of these families who mourn with the comfort and Good News of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Well done, thou good and faithful servant...
